New investor Intel Capital

Collax receives Investment from Intel Capital. Investment increases Collax’s Series A investment to $8.4 million.

San Francisco/Munich February 7th, 2006 – Collax, a vendor of Linux based server technology, has received an investment from Intel Capital. This funding, combined with the prior investments from Atlas Venture Partners and Wellington Partners, caps the company’s Series A round at $8.4 million.

Collax intends to use the funds from Intel Capital to expand its roll-out in Europe and to enter the US market in Q3 2006 in order to capitalize on the increasing customer demand for low cost, easy to use open source-based server solutions.

The Collax Business Server is an open source server solution that integrates critical security, network infrastructure and communication functions. The software functionality ranges from file, email, fax, proxy and web servers through routers and VPNs to firewalls, anti-virus servers, anti-spam and web content filters. All this functionality is accessed via a transparent and user-friendly interface, shielding the user from the complexity of Linux and the best-of-breed open source components that comprise the Collax solution. Most importantly, no Linux know-how is required to install and run the Collax Business Server.

“Following the IDC study ‘The Linux Marketplace’, the open source server market is growing at 26% and is expected to reach a volume of $11 billion in 2008. The adoption of simple, low cost, easy to use open source solutions will expand the market and accelerate growth,” says Olaf Jacobi, Collax CEO. “The Collax Business Server directly addresses this SMB market opportunity and is currently being deployed in Europe with an expected US launch in Q3 2006.”

“Collax’s product and sales strategy is clearly focused on the needs of the small to medium sized business,” says Klaus Konrad, Investment Manager at Intel Capital. “We are excited about working with Collax as it continues to expand its customer base, accelerating deployment of dedicated solutions for this market segment.”
