Collax Surf Protection

The Collax Surf Protection module meets two objectives:

Firstly, it protects employees from illegal Web contents, thereby supporting the management in fulfilling its responsibility in this regard.
Secondly, the Collax Surf Protection prevents employees from surfing Web pages that are not conducive to the company's productivity.

For this purpose the Collax Surf Protection makes use of a technology that combines text and image analysis and is based on one of the world's largest databases.

Minimize the Liability Risk of Management

The Collax Surf Protection module helps to keep content like pornography, violence and racism away from the company. Note that in many countries management and the employee are held personally liable for any files with illegal contents found on servers or workstations. The Collax Surf Protection ensures the such content is not inadvertently brought into the company from the Internet.

Boost Staff Productivity

The personal use of the Internet by employees can be controlled by means of access restrictions. For example, Internet access can be individually configured and optimized by employees, user groups, IP addresses or host names. Another method would be by specifying time periods or pages that are prohibited during work periods but can be reached after office hours. The access can be configured separately for various categories such as shopping, sports, vacation planning or job search.

Technology

To provide comprehensive filtering, Collax utilises the expertise of the OrangeBox. The OrangeBox was originally developed by Cobion and was then taken over by IBM. The OrangeBox accesses the database containing the world's most up-to-date, effective, and powerful Internet filter list. The catalogue comprises of 100,000,000 Web sites. Daily updates with up to 150,000 update transactions from the central computer ensure absolute reliability. In this way, you can benefit from the filter list with the most advanced network coverage and highest quality.

To categorize a requested Web page, the Collax Surf Protection queries one of the largest URL databases and one of the largest image databases (> 1 billion images).
The filtering takes place in 68 categories. Illegal or objectionable contents like drugs, violence, or pornography can be blocked entirely. Harmless categories, which however consume working time, such as shopping, travel, or news, can be blocked during working hours. Exceptions can be determined for selected users.
Web pages are categorized on the basis of a content analysis that takes the text and image information on the page into consideration.
The databases are updated on a daily basis. Every day, up to 150,000 new URLs are added to the database.
The monitoring takes place in the form of real-time synchronization with the databases.
The lists can be used as blacklists or whitelists.
