• The long term energy savings result in a drop in energy expense

But how can this actually be achieved?

• The most obvious approach is to cut down on hardware use. This can be done with virtualization techniques and reducing hardware.
• When purchasing hardware look out for environmentally approved hardware for example the 80 Plus logo.
• Making sure the hardware you do have is running optimally. Monitor your systems for temperature fluctuations that might show the need for maintenance
• Reduce the amount of use of hardware that has mechanically moving component: Share devises that have moving parts. For example use shared peripherals like hard drives, CD drives, printers etc.
